Radiation safety

The goal of our operations is a radiation-safe Finland. Radiation safety is created as a result of the work of people who know their responsibilities. We work in good cooperation with other authorities, organizations and the entire surrounding society, both in Finland and internationally.

Current issues

Particle samples collected by the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) from the air in Rovaniemi, Kuopio and Imatra in mid-January contained levels of radioactive substances exceeding the detection limit. The concentrations were very low and posed no risk to people or the environment.

The Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) is coordinating the international safety assessment of a Finnish small modular reactor. The project examines how cooperation could facilitate the evaluation of new nuclear facilities.
