AASI - program for simulating energy spectra in alpha spectometry

Advanced alpha-spectrometric simulation, AASI, is a Monte Carlo code developed for simulating energy spectra in alpha spectrometry. AASI simulates the geometrical detection efficiency and energy loss of the alpha particles in the source itself and in the material between the source and detector. The user can specify different characteristics of the radioactive particles, medium material and the alpha detector, which are taken into account in the simulations.

AASI has a graphical user interface that can be used to load, save and edit the simulation setups and parameters, plot the simulation results, and to view library data on nuclides and coincidences. Full details of the calculation method of AASI, along with cases where AASI has been used, are found in the references.

AASI has been developed by STUK (Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority in Finland) for its own research purposes, but the program is also available for others as a free download.
