Preparedness for radiation hazards
Although the likelihood of a serious radiation hazard situation in Finland is small, preparations have been made, as an accident cannot be completely ruled out. The Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) maintains preparedness for abnormal radiation situations and receives all radiation-related notifications at all times of the day.
The Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority participates in a joint European project that seeks to harmonise the measurement of environmental pollutants and improve the reliability of the measurements. The project started at the beginning of October and is called Metrology for the harmonisation of Environmental Compass in Europe (MetroPOEM).
