Quality System
The quality system of the Radiation Metrology Laboratory is internationally recognized. The laboratory participates in the international CIPM MRA Mutual Recognition Arrangement coordinated by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM).
STUK serves as the national metrological laboratory and maintains metrological standards for dose quantities of ionizing radiation. STUK participates in the international CIPM MRA (Comité Internationale des Poids et Mesures, Mutual Recognition Arrangement). According to the arrangement, national metrology institutes and national metrology laboratories recognize the validity of each other's calibration and measurement certificates. As a result, measurements carried out by any laboratory included in the Arrangement are accepted everywhere.
The quality systems of the laboratories participating in the CIPM MRA must meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025. There are two equivalent methods for the approval of quality system: a self-declaration approach or a third-party accreditation approach. A self-declaration approval requires annual reporting to EURAMET and regular external peer-reviews. In the case of the Radiation Metrology Laboratory, the approval of the quality system is based on a self-declaration, as is the case for most of the other national metrology laboratories in Finland.
